My amazing finds

I've been doing a lot of shopping recently, party for fashion week and partly because I need new clothes for winter.

After I picked up my pass for L'Oreal Fashion Week at the Drake, I came across a vintage shop called 69 Vintage. They had amazing clothes: Soft men's leather jackets, military-style coats, poofy dresses, sparkly clutches and other great finds. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but a bomber fur coat caught my eye and I decided to try it on. Now fur is not a look I normally go for. I think it takes a lot of confidence to pull off an all-fur coat (those jackets with fur trims on the collars don't count.) But this was so soft, warm and in excellent condition so I bought it for a bargain of $70. I haven't worn it yet because I'm a bit worried that people will throw things at me so I'm going to wait until it gets colder. But it's magnificent.




My second amazing find is a Elie Tahari black lace cocktail dress I got at Winners for $200. It's stunning. The top has lace detail with a cream lining so you don't see through it. It has a square neck line. The fabric just below the bust is ruched and then the rest of the dress just sits perfectly on the body. It reminds me a bit of Audrey Hepburn.

Vintage finds

I am a newcomer to vintage so I've been researching a lot of local stores as well as online consignment shops. I came across Olive's Very Vintage, a clothing boutique in Brooklyn, which sells vintage designer clothing and accessories, as well as lesser-known goodies.
Here are some of my favorite selections:

Ralph Lauren Nautical Blazer, 1980s

I love how this nautical blazers are making a comeback. I bought a similar blazer with a crest and gold-plated buttons on the sleeves at Bebe and I always get asked whether it is vintage. One guy even asked me if I went to an all-girls school (I lied and said yes!) I love how this blazer is over-sized but is fitted to your shape.

Metallic Egg-Shaped Evening Bag, 1970s


It reminds me of a Fabergé Egg; so gorgeous but quirky. I would love to get my hands on this unique piece. And it can also be used as a clutch!

Grey Silk Mandarin Dress, 1950s


This piece is very classic and elegant but I also find it extremely sexy in a restrained kind of way. I love the idea "less is more" and this dress exemplifies that statement.

Norman Norell Floral Lace Dress, 1960s


When I saw this dress I immediately thought of the Prada F/W 08 collection which really showed us how we should be wearing lace. This dress still looks young and modern and I love how the bow completes the outfit.

Shopping craziness Part One

I quickly snapped a few pictures of a couple of my purchases from the last couple of days. I got a great deal on a Prada bag, a new Coach clutch and a bunch of dresses and belts from Jacob.
Go to your local mall NOW. The sales are incredible! The Prada Nappa Stripes Hobo bag was originally $1800, which I thought was crazy for such a small bag. What I bought it for? $600! Score! All the dresses at Jacob were half price and there was tons of inventory. I must have spent about two hours in that store trying on dozens of dresses. So without further ado, here are a couple of my purchases. I will post the rest later.

Jacob Bubble dress, Jacob purple patent belt and Coach Madison clutch. You can't see it in the photos but the bubble dress has very ornate embroidery on it which makes it great for the evening but I think it works well during the day because it's very classic. I also love the pop of colour that the clutch has against the white.

Summer Dresses

Summer is here and temperatures in Toronto will reach almost 40 degrees this week. Ack! I'm afraid that my usual uniform of jeans and a loose top will not do. It's time to break the bank and go shopping for summer dresses AKA my clothing foes.

I already have two strapless dresses from the Gap which I have worn to work, but I need something else that won't make me worry about the top falling down and exposing my chest. That's why I love the Internet.

First stop: Jacob. I love Jacob and Jacob Connexion because they always have inexpensive quality clothing. They have the best summer tops and stylish sweaters. And now I have realized that they have amazing dresses. Take a look at my picks:

1. Printed Scoop Neck Dress. $85


I love that this dress has a print as if it were painted on and I like the belt. Although I would take that belt off and buy another one that doesn't match. The wide shoulders make it perfect to wear to work or for a fun day of shopping and eating.

If you look closely at the bust, you see there are some nice details in the sewing as well as right below the bust showing three layers.

Because I love a draped skirt.

I love the colours and how it's sexy but understated.
